They saw only scum
An affront to their own image
An annoyance to postpone
But she
She saw her genesis
A child
clean and true
blending the complex with the simple
weaving figure and ground
So she splashes water on her profile
Clinging gently to the pure
And watches the remains
Spiral down the drain
